Brian Nissen was born in London, England in 1939. In 1963/78 He lived in Mexico for 17 years. He held exhibitions in South America, U.S.A. and Europe. In 1978 Brian Nissen moved to New York where he presently lives and works. In 1980-81 was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. His principal exhibitions were held at the Museum of Modern Art Mexico City, the Museum of Modern Art Buenos Aires, the Whitechapel Art Gallery, London, Tamayo Museum Mexico City, Museo de Barrio, New York.
